SDDBR Club partners with Golden Triangle Rotary in "Food Distribution Program to Vulnerable Families" in Afghanistan.
In late 2021, compassion motivated past-president Kim Stewart to request from the Internation Service Committee response to the crisis in Afghanistan. ISC co-chairs Mary Engles and Lynn Hamilton had judiciously reserved some of the ISC grant budget for such an emergency. The ISC voted unanimously to support Golden Triangle Rotary's decades-long efforts to help Afghan children and their families. After the donation of funds from various Rotary Clubs, the Afghan director shared the results:
"I and my team commenced our activities as planned. We went to all wholesale Food Grocery shops and purchased the listed items [at] reasonable prices.
In addition, we have worked extremely hard to prepare the 11 food packages for 14 families and shifted the items to each family in different locations. It is quite hard to see beautiful children’s eyes full of disappointments and hopelessness. It brings tears to one's eyes when listening to their upsetting stories and observing the financial difficulties.
It may be nothing for so many people, but for these families, such a food package is new hope, a reason to smile again, and a kind and humble assistance that makes them happy unconditionally, so they don’t think alone and feel that there are people who are thinking and caring about them as human beings.
The reward goes to [Fary and Steve from Rotary Golden Triangle] in the first step, and then to all those wonderful people who donated and helped [SDDBR Club and other Rotary Club]these vulnerable families under such uncertain and dire situations in the country. I and my team are so happy that we had the honor once again to help these families, and looking forward to receiving the remaining funds intended for helping more selected families as well."
