S.D. DOWNTOWN BREAKFAST ROTARY
HOSTS TWO 4-WAY TEST SPEECH CONTESTS
The 4-way test is an ethical checklist for every Rotarian. It was described in 1932 by Herbert J. Taylor and adopted by Rotary International in 1943. Every year Rotary District 5340 sponsors a speech contest for high school students to compose and deliver speeches incorporating the principles of the 4-way test. This year the San Diego Downtown Breakfast Rotary Club was privileged to host two of these contests. The first of these was sponsored by our club and was conceived and organized by Nancy Vaughan. Five students from East Village Middle College High School delivered their speeches to the club Feb 14th with the top two finishers moving on to sub-regional competitions several weeks later. The second contest hosted by our club was the District 5340 Regional competition April 10th which was orchestrated by Claire Maytum. Four students who had survived the club and subregional events made their presentations with the top 3 moving on to the finals at the Coronado Rotary Club April 24th. Congratulations to all the students for their great speeches and presentations! Thank you, Nancy and Claire, for your hard work putting these events together. They are an inspiration for all.
