More than 30 members of the San Diego Downtown Breakfast Rotary Club, along with their families and friends, participated in the 30th annual Stand Down for homeless veterans on July 22 and 23.  Through the generosity of organizations and individuals like us, about 1,000 former military members and their families received food, clothing, showers, medical, dental and legal assistance, substance abuse counseling and a variety of other services.

Stand Down is a three-day event that began in 1988 in San Diego as a way to help former military members get off the streets and put their lives back together.  Every year, our club pays for and serves breakfast as part of the effort to help address the plight of these veterans.  It is undoubtedly one of the most moving and worthwhile projects that we undertake.  Many thanks to Frank DeFrancesco and Gary Green for coordinating the event on behalf of our club and to everyone who volunteered their time.
