Volunteering with Food Distribution
At Armed Services YMCA
On October 26th, ten Rotarians from the San Diego Downtown Breakfast Rotary assisted the Tierrasanta Armed Services YMCA in their regular food distribution. Starting at 0830, the group packaged a variety of food items, including frozen proteins, starches, canned and dry goods, fruits and vegetables. The food is supplied by the San Diego Food Bank. The recipients then checked in, drove through, and the food packages were loaded into their vehicles. The line of vehicles extended far down the street and did not stop until noon. The ASYMCA estimates that approximately 300 military individuals and their families are served with this particular distribution. It was hard but immensely satisfying work.
