Serving Seniors: A Heartfelt Holiday Project

On the Saturday before Christmas, 14 Rotarians, their families and friends delivered tons of merriment and holiday joy to the folks at Serving Seniors.  At this hands-on event organized by our Community Service Committee, we served a nutritious lunch to around 100 older adults at the Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center in downtown San Diego.  Serving Seniors provides a wide array of health-promoting services to help seniors in poverty thrive despite their low incomes, and we were honored to be part of their mission to make an impact.

This was such a fun and festive event!  In addition to the lunch service, we provided holiday music by the talented John Highkin, his musician friends Bruce and Ethan, and President Steve, with caroling by several of us, including Pauline’s mom Celine.  There was even a surprise visit from Santa!  In the true spirit of Service Above Self, our club surely warmed the hearts of many people in our community facing challenges and added a little cheer to their holidays.

Thanks to participants Nancy Vaughan, Mary Engles, Bobbi Spinner-Flack, Gary and Frimmel Smith, Barbara Bry, Pauline Lim-Endresen and mom Celine, Bob Semmer, Alex Kwoka, Martha Page, Janet White, Steve Bridge, Brian Matter and family, John Highkin and Bruce and Ethan, Judy Bambace and Brian Trotier.
