Casas De Luz and Rotary Build a Home in One Day!
On Saturday, August 18th, a group of Rotarians and volunteers from Casas De Luz met at 7AM in Chula Vista and caravanned to Tijuana to build a house for Blanca and her son, Juan. The process started with a concrete slab and ended with a small, 3-room house. We split into multiple teams to saw, hammer, and paint, getting the job done in about 7 hours. Mother nature cooperated by giving us some cloud cover and cooler conditions. After completing the final touches on the house, we had a ceremony where the keys were passed around the circle of volunteers and presented to Blanca and Juan. There were few dry eyes as they entered their home for the first time. Thank you, Mike Lewis and Casas de Luz for giving us this opportunity to serve!
